In the Event of Death

What should be done in the event of death?

When a death occurs, it is quite normal to feel helpless, even if you expect it. However, some measures need to be taken quickly. The staff of Des Trembles Cemetery & Funeral Complex, located in Pointe-aux-Trembles, informs you of the steps to take in the event of the death of a loved one.

Death occurs at home

The first thing to do is to call the emergency services (911) and, if necessary, let them know that you were expecting the death. Urgence-Santé will sign the death certificate at the residence. The family doctor may also travel to sign the death certificate. Talk to your doctor about the procedure to follow. You can then call us to arrange the transportation of your loved one.

Death occurs in hospital or institution

When a death occurs in a hospital or other institution, contact us. We will take care of receiving the authorizations to transport your loved one to our funeral complex once the death certificate has been signed.

Payment of funeral expenses

In order to complete the request for a death certificate or a copy of act, you will need a credit card number. Funeral expenses can be paid by Visa or MasterCard, by cheque or cash at the end of the meeting.

If you have any questions or would like more information before the meeting, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone. Your counsellor will also be happy to provide you with his or her email address when making arrangements.

Meet a funeral service professional

A member of our staff can discuss funeral and burial arrangements with you. He will take note of the information necessary to file the declaration of death. During this meeting, which lasts about 2 hours, you will need to have several pieces of information and identification with you:

Health insurance number (a card, if available)

Social Insurance Number

Driver's license number

Place of birth

Parents' names

Place of marriage or civil union

Date of marriage or civil union

Date of death of spouse, divorce or dissolution of civil union

If necessary, we will also ask you to bring clothing belonging to the deceased, as well as a photo.
